How to organise your transportation to and around Waiheke Island

If you’re planning to visit Waiheke Island, one of the first things you’ll need to do is figure out how you’re going to get around.

Transport to/from Waiheke island

You have four options for travel to/from Waiheke Island, depending on your schedule and preferences.

The most cost-effective option is to take a ferry. Fullers operate a passenger ferry service from the Ferry Terminal in Auckland’s CBD. Ferries leave on the hour throughout the day, and will drop you at Matiatia Wharf. Alternatively, you can use the Sealink ferries for passengers and vehicles – these leave from Wynyard Wharf and Half Moon Bay in Auckland, and drop passengers and vehicles at Kennedy Point on Waiheke Island.

If you want more flexibility, you can hire a water taxi. Services include Auckland Sea Shuttles, Auckland Water Taxis, and Chas’n Tail Fishing Charters/Water Taxi

To start your trip in style, you may like to arrive on the island by air. This will offer you breath-taking vistas across the Hauraki Gulf and an aerial view of the island. Auckland Seaplanes offer transfers and scenic flights on fixed-wing planes, and can put together a personalised itinerary. Inflite Charter also offer a range of aircraft choices suitable for private and group travel.

For the ultimate travel indulgance, why not book a helicpoter flight? Heletranz offer amazing packages for helicopter flights to and around Waiheke. They’re able to land directly at some of the island’s top vineyards, as well as right here on the lawn at Te Whau Lodge. Now that’s arriving in style!

You can also hire bikes and scooters from Island Scoot, eCylcesNZ/ Onya Bikes Waiheke, or Waiheke Bike Hire.

Cars can be rented through Waiheke Auto Rentals, Fun Rentals, and Waiheke Rental Cars. We can help organise this for you.

You can also book bespoke personalised tours, such as Waiheke Private Hire and Transfers, or Telsa Tours.

And, of course, if you’ve come in your own helicopter, or want to tour the island in style, you’re able to land at many of the larger wineries, leaving from our very own helipad.
