A guide to Waiheke’s finest dining

Waiheke is home to some of the country’s top chefs and most creative kitchens. Combine that with the fine local wine and fresh local ingredients available all year round, and you’re in for a gastronomic treat.

Here are our top picks for the finest dining on Waiheke Island:

Mudbrick Vineyard

126 Church Bay Road, Oneroa

Mudbrick is perhaps the most iconic vineyard on Waiheke Island, and for good reason. Your backdrop will be the dramatic Hauraki Gulf as you enjoy fine food and your choice of wine from the vineyard’s extensive cellar. We recommend the degustation menu for the ultimate culinary experience.

Casita Miro

3 Brown Rd, Onetangi

This spanish-infused dining experience is our top recommendation for a group. With dishes designed for sharing and ample glasses of the vineyard’s fortified wine, you’ll experience an unforgettable evening.

Tantalus

70-72 Onetangi Road

Tantalus is one of the newest additions to the local fine dining scene, only opening its doors in 2015. Since then they’ve gained a reputation for exquisite presentation and the best seasonal produce – including sustainable seafood, free range meats and game, and produce plucked from their on-site kitchen gardens.

Poderi Crisci

205 Awaawaroa Road

This gorgeous Italian restaurant is a little out of the way – down a dramatic country road. But it’s well worth the trek. Transport yourself to the Tuscan countryside as you dine on a menu of Mediterranean delights while overlooking the ocean and surrounding vineyards. The perfect spot for an unforgettable romantic meal.

Te Motu

76 Onetangi Road, Onetangi,

Visit this award-winning winery and restaurant overlooking the Onetangi Valley. Their wines are crafted from low-yielding vines and embody the unique personality of the vineyard site. Paired with the rustic, gutsy and modern menu created by chefs who love to experiment with flavours and ingredients, you won’t regret your visit.

Oyster Inn

124 Oceanview Road, Oneroa

This fresh and unique restaurant offers a relaxed dining experience inspired by the Waiheke coastal environment. Choose from a table on the verandah overlooking the Hauraki Gulf, or take a seat at the banquettes in the relaxed dining room. Experience superb cocktails, an extensive wine selection, and honest, simple fare made with locally-sourced ingredients and fresh catch, perfectly cooked and presented.

372

21 The Strand, Onetangi

Experience the sublime culinary delights of this new fine dining establishment on Waiheke. Dine in a stunning seafront setting and enjoy a selection of dishes to share. Food incorporates local ingredients with a creative flair, borrowing ideas from around the world to create truly unique dishes.
