Corporate careers now happily swapped for careers in hospitality
When Liz and Gene decided to abandon corporate life and set up Te Whau Lodge, they wanted to create the small, intimate retreat that they longed to find in their own travels – the result is quintessentially ‘kiwi’ - a laid back island escape for no more than four couples..
Living on an island the lure of the sea is always there and swimming, sailing and fishing are favourite pastimes. In fact it was through sailing that they first discovered Waiheke Island – it was a special place for holidays and time out when living in Auckland. Now they have jumped ship (well, actually a yacht) and can enjoy this special part of the world year round.
Keen travellers, they make annual trips to France – to a village in the Languedoc - taking groups with them to share the experience and giving Gene inspiration for French inspired dishes on his return.
